WELCOME TO HAAR BY DEAN BANKS

Haar Restaurant is one of the newest dining concepts in St Andrews. Dean Banks (MasterChef: The Professionals, finalist) opened Haar in the Spring of 2019 moving to their new home in November 2021
‘Relaxed Fine Dining’
The concept simply focuses on letting the food speak for itself. Haar hosts some of the best local produce with little touches and nuances from Europe and further afield. Flavours and cooking styles from all over the world are brought together in true harmony to bring you a dining experience like no other.
The food combined with a re-imagined fine dining experience creates a more relaxed environment. Above all the Haar experience is about having fun and enjoying the moments and memories created whilst dining.
Haar puts the environment at the forefront. It focuses on sourcing sustainable products and being as carbon sensitive as possible is paramount. This ethos can be seen throughout the restaurant, from its interior construction materials, the crockery chosen right through to the food and drink items served. Where possible the ingredients and products used are locally sourced, which includes an exclusively Scottish back bar.

The Professionals’
Dean Banks has spent his life being passionate about cooking, starting his career at the young age of 15. This early take to cooking was helped by growing up in a small fishing town called Arbroath, famous for the Arbroath Smokie, this set the scene and started him on his journey.
Dean’s career has taken him around the world, visiting over 40 countries, and working as a private chef. During these travels, he has witnessed and absorbed many cultures, their styles, specialist skills, techniques, and flavours of cooking.
In 2018 Dean decided to move home to Scotland. This coincided with Dean feeling it to be the right time to enter MasterChef the professional where he wowed judges from the get-go. Using the techniques, creativity, and a showcase of the flavours from his travels Dean advanced to the final 3 of the 2018 show.
